Herbert Perkinson, 49, of Emerson, was found shot during the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 17 on the southbound side of the interstate north of the Cobb-Cherokee line.
The GBI is asking citizens who may hold the key to identify those responsible in the home invasion and killing of the Emerson resident to call Assistant Special Agent in Charge Joe Montgomery at 706-624-1424 with information.

The discovery of Perkinson's body was made around 5:49 a.m. when deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office were dispatched to an unknown trouble call on the interstate.
Deputies found an adult male “lying on the inside warning lane of the interstate with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso,” Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office previously told Patch.
It was later determined Perkinson was the victim of a home invasion, as Emerson police requested the assistance of the GBI to investigate the incident, which occurred in the 100 block of 11th street, GBI spokesperson Scott Dutton previously told Patch.
Perkinson was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he died from his injuries. Along with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Emerson police are also investigating the case, Dutton added.
