Festival, Stroll Take Over Downtown

Food, music, art and books are all right here this weekend in and around Canton.

Where/When: Canton Historic Downtown Loop, Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Why Go: Downtown merchants will have extended hours so get out, browse the shops, and enjoy live music and refreshments. It will be a great Canton Festival of the Arts Eve.

Where/When: , Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Get out and enjoy the art and literature available in Canton for the weekend. Besides the popular Artist Market, there's the Literary Celebration sponsored by . It will feature booksignings and panel discussions with authors from five states. Hands-on art activities for kids, Open Mic Night on the plaza at , food concessions and a wine and beer garden makes this a "don't miss" event.

3. DANCE PARTY

Where/When: Cherokee Rhythm and Smooth, Friday 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Get out and celebrate the end of the work week. Put on your dancing shoes and have fun with friends. A beginner's lesson is at 7:30 followed by the dance party.  You might just learn a new step or two.

4. FARMERS MARKETS

Where/When: , Reinhardt University and downtown Woodstock; Today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Reinhardt; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Canton; and Saturday 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Woodstock.

Why Go: It's that time of year for homegrown goodies. Take your pick of locally grown, farm fresh produce as well as plants and flowers. Enjoy live music, activities and so much more. Get out to all three.

Why Go: Did you ever have a bad date? A really bad date? FUSE, a singles group for ages 30-55, continues its "My Really Bad Date" series on Friday. This week's topic: "Baggage Claim". 6. CHEROKEE CHORALE POPS CONCERT

Where/When: Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt University, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Why Go: You will hear some great music by a great group of singers. You can buy tickets at the door or purchase in advance from any chorale member, Chamberhouse in Canton, Three Sisters Gifts in Hickory Flat, Jasper Drug in Jasper and Foxtale Book Shoppe in Woodstock.

Pricing: $10 adults; $5 students
