Fire Damages East Cherokee County Home
No one was injured in the fire on S.R. 20/Cumming Highway at McClure Drive near the Forsyth-Cherokee line.
CANTON, GA -- A home suffered moderate damage in a fire reported Thursday morning along Highway 20 near the Forsyth-Cherokee county line east of Canton.
Crews with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched around 10 a.m. June 8 to the fire in the 14000 block of S.R. 20/Cumming Highway at McClure Drive. They arrived at the residence to find heavy smoke billowing from the one-story home.
Moments later, the blaze erupted through the roof of the house. Firefighters went to work attacking the fire, and were able to extinguish the inferno. However, the home still suffered considerable fire, smoke and water damage, the fire department said.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, including the 27-year-old tenant, Cherokee County fire added.
No injuries were reported and one lane of Cumming Highway was blocked until the operation was complete. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Cherokee County fire investigators.
