Fire Destroys Vacant Home In Canton
A man in his early 60's who was using the home for shelter said he woke up and discovered the fire on the back porch.
CANTON, GA -- A house was destroyed Friday morning in a fire in Canton. Crews with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the blaze around 9:45 a.m. Sept. 8 at the corner of S.R. 140 and Mill Street, which is north of the highway's intersection with Reinhardt College Parkway.
The structure, which was "technically" an abandoned home, was used by a man in his early 60's, who had been using the space for shelter, the agency said.
"The male was in the structure sleeping at the time of the fire and was awakened by a 'popping' sound and discovered fire on the back porch of the home," the department added.
