GDOT Changes Upper Sweetwater Trail Detour Route
The road's intersection with S.R. 20/Knox Bridge Highway remains closed so it can be tied into its realignment with major thoroughfare.

A change in the detour around the closure of a Highway 20 intersection has been implemented.

The Georgia Department of Transportation on Thursday said the updated detour will now utilize Upper Sweetwater Trail and Woodall Road.
The agency closed Sweetwater Trail at S.R. 20/Knox Bridge Highway Sept. 14 in order to tie into its realignment with the highway. GDOT estimates the intersection will be closed until mid-November.

The previous detour used Rhine Road, but a spokesperson with GDOT said the agency received numerous complaints about the chosen detour route.
GDOT officials ask motorists to pack their patience, and to also obey the detour for their safety as well as for the safety of their neighbors and construction crews.
