Saturday, July 18, 2015, will serve as Give A Kid A Chance’s 10th anniversary with President Cheryl Ruffer serving at the helm. The event started 10 years ago with Ruffer leading the charge to distribute 200 backpacks. In 2014, with the help of over 500 volunteers, organizers collected and distributed 3,000 backpacks, news socks and underwear to Cherokee County children, the organization said in its press release.
Organizers are now in the thick of this year’s campaign, and they are hoping to reach even more families in needs. The free event offers low-income children new backpack filled with school supplies, new socks and underwear, gently used clothing, stuffed animal, two books, haircuts and medical screenings.
