Gold Swimmer Excels in International Competition

Chattahoochee Gold's Alarii Levreault-Lopez has his sights set on the Olympics after his success in two recent international competitions.

Alarii Levreault-Lopez took part in Mexico’s National Long Course Swimming Championships from June 29th through July 4th in Guadalajara. He captured the 18 & under National Championship in 100 Butterfly (56.50) and the 18 & under and overall championships in 200 Butterfly (205.12).

He also recently competed in the Irish National Meet in Dublin where he finished 4th in 200 Butterfly, 4th in 400 IM, 5th in 100 Butterfly, 2nd in 400 Medley Relay and 3rd in 800 Freestyle Relay.

Levreault-Lopez has dual citizenship, his mother is American and his father Mexican, so he can compete for a place on the American or Mexican Olympic teams.

“I am hopeful to compete for Mexico in the Olympics in 2016 or 2020. The competition for the Mexican National Olympic team is much stiffer than for any other meet because there are many dual citizen swimmers that are in the US training with the same goal, so I know I will have to train hard this next year and really excel to be chosen for the team.

My immediate plans include going to San Antonio at the end of this month to compete for my last time at the U.S. Junior National Championships. I am about a quarter second off a US Olympic Trial cut in the 200 Fly. My goal is to make the top 8 in this event and achieve that cut. “

Meantime, Levreault Lopez will also soon say goodbye to Chattahoochee Gold, his club team based in Woodstock. In the fall he’ll head for Baton Rouge to swim for the LSU Tigers and continue his training aiming for an Olympic berth.
