'Guns & Hoses' Raises Funds For Nonprofit Organizations

The ninth annual race organized by the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency will take place Feb. 28 at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake.

The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency later this month will host its ninth annual Guns & Hoses 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run.

The race will take place Saturday, Feb. 28 at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake. The fun run will start at 7:30 a.m. while the 5K gets underway at 8 a.m.

The purpose of the run is to raise money for charities chosen by the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

This year, Cherokee Fire will raise funds for the Goshen Valley Boys Ranch, a nonprofit home serving young men in the state foster care system, while the sheriff’s office will donate money to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Foundation.

That organization provides funding for charities and people in need locally in Cherokee County.

When registering, walkers and runners will pick the team that you want to represent and a portion of your fee will go towards their chosen charity.

Online registration started in November and closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20. After that date, residents must register in person at CRPA’s Recreation Center at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock. Registration forms can be downloaded from CRPA’s website.

5K pre-registration is $25 and $30 after Feb. 13 through race day. For the fun run, the cost is $10, but rises to $15 after Feb. 13 and through race day.

Shirts will be made available in race packets for all 5K participants only, and size selections will be guaranteed for those that register by Feb. 13. All 1 mile fun run participants will earn a commemorative medal. For the 5K race, awards will be given in both male and female divisions and in a variety of age groups.
