Holly Springs Police Chief To Retire, Serve As Sheriff's Chief Deputy

Ken Ball will serve under Frank Reynolds once he is sworn in as Cherokee County's next sheriff.

HOLLY SPRINGS, GA -- Even though the May 24 general primary election is not even a month behind us, Cherokee County sheriff-elect Frank Reynolds is already making personnel moves.

Holly Springs Police Chief Ken Ball informed the city he will retire from his post by the end of the year. Ball has accepted a position to serve as chief deputy with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, a tenure that will start in January under sheriff-elect Frank Reynolds, said Holly Springs City Manager Rob Logan.

"We know that Chief Ball will be very successful in his new career, and we wish him much success in the future," Logan added.

With that in mind, Logan said Mayor Tim Downing and the City Council intend to name Deputy Police Chief Michael Carswell to the post of acting police chief during the transition.

Logan said a full-time chief will be named upon Ball's retirement.

Reynolds told Patch he chose Ball because of his experience, how well-respected he is in the profession and his level of education. He also said many people have enjoyed working Ball, and believes he will bring a level of stability he's looking to implement in the sheriff's office.

"He's the kind of guy that will tell me what I need to hear and not what I want to hear," he added.

Reynolds stated he sat down with Ball last week to offer him the position. Once word got out, Reynolds said he's heard nothing but positive feedback from the men and women in uniform.

When asked if residents can expect any additional personnel changes this year, Reynolds said he doesn't foresee any changes happening until 2017.
