ICYMI: Police In The Park Set For Saturday

The Canton Police Department's family-friendly event, which will include demonstrations and entertainment, will be held Nov. 5.

CANTON, GA -- On Saturday, the Canton Police Department will host an event designed to promote its Unity in our Community initiative.

Police in the Park will be held Nov. 5 at Etowah River Park. The agency's Unity in our Community program works to improve communications and foster relationships between the police force and the community it serve.

The event features a 5K as well as a kids' Fun-Run, bounce houses, food, music and family-friendly entertainment.

The 5K starts at 9 a.m., and will be followed by the Fun-Run. Food and entertainment will kick off at 10:30 a.m. and will run to 1 p.m.

Special police demonstrations featuring public safety vehicles such as the Georgia State Patrol helicopter will be the highlight of the event.

Registration for the race can be done online.

Police Chief Mark Mitchell said the event gives the agency and community the chance to interact and build the partnerships needed "during this time in our nation's history."

"Our mindset and attitude here is to be innovative and active with our community policing efforts and programs because not only are we supposed to protect our citizens but we are also charged to engage with our community," he added. "We believe that a healthy balance of the two works extremely well to improve the quality of life in our great city."
