Bobby Kilgore, 71, died Monday while in custody at the facility, said Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kimberly A. Grant. Grant said Kilgore, a Palmetto resident, was booked into the facility June 6 on a probation violation charge.
She added Kilgore had a medical condition that required him to be housed in the facility’s Medical Unit and was under the care of the jail’s medical staff.

The GBI is investigating the incident, as it would any death that would occur inside the facility, Grant stated. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16 at the GBI’s Crime Lab.
Kilgore’s passing is the second reported death at the facility in the last seven months. In December, 32-year-old Demetrie Jones passed away while in custody. An autopsy stated Jones “most likely died from complications of his medical condition,” Lt. Jay Baker previously told Patch.
