July 4th Weather: Get Forecast Details For Canton-Sixes

Your Fourth of July plans should include an umbrella, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, which said showers and thunderstorms are possible for much of the state on the holiday.

“The best chances for thunderstorms will be across portions of north Georgia during the afternoon and evening,” the weather service said. “A few of these storms could be strong to severe. Remember, when thunder roars...go indoors!”

Storms also are in the forecast for Friday and Sunday, too, so remember to be prepared for inclement weather while you’re outdoors picnicking, swimming and watching fireworks this weekend.

Here’s the lowdown:

  • Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. West wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Friday night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. West wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Independence Day: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
  • Saturday night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67.
  • Sunday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84.
