Four people escaped injuries Monday morning in a fire just over the northeast Cherokee-Pickens county line.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services received a call just after 9:30 a.m. Nov. 23 for assistance with a fire on Lawson Federal Road, which is located off Yellow Creek Road northwest of Gibbs Gardens.
Engine 15 from Cherokee County’s Mica Fire Station responded to the blaze and when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.

The four occupants of the house were able to evacuate without any injuries. Pickens County Fire Marshal Curtis Clark said the family was using a kerosene heater in one of the rooms.
One of the occupants smelled smoke and opened the door to find flames inside the room, Cherokee County fire said.
The center section of the home was destroyed while the other portions received smoke and water damage.
Portions of the Lawson Federal Road were blocked until the operation was complete. The fire remains under investigation.
