KKK Fliers Left In Canton Subdivision

Canton police say they have not been able to track down who is responsible for distributing the fliers in the Great Sky neighborhood.

CANTON, GA -- The Canton Police Department said it has been notified that Ku Klux Klan recruitment fliers were left in a large-scale subdivision.

The agency said it was notified by a citizen about the fliers, which Police Chief Mark Mitchell said were left overnight on Monday, July 18.

Police Chief Mark Mitchell said officers have not been able to follow-up with the citizen to file an official report.

"We have continued our patrols in the area. and urge residence to call if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhood," he said, adding the agency takes this situation "seriously as we do any other call for service in our community.

In cases such as these, it's difficult for investigators to track down the origin of the information and the people responsible for disseminating the material, as the only contact information left on the fliers is a national number or website, the chief added.

To the west of Canton, KKK fliers were also distributed this week in a neighborhood in Floyd County. According to the Rome News-Tribune, fliers wrapped in sandwich bags appeared in a neighborhood in the Shannon community.
