“When my wife and I moved our family to Cherokee County eight years ago, we knew we wanted to be actively involved in the community," he said. "Almost since our arrival, I have served on various boards and committees to serve the community and to help it continue to be a great place to live, work and play."

Kovacs has served on the Holly Springs Downtown Development Authority and the city's Planning and Zoning Commission and is a member of the Cherokee FOCUS Board of Directors.

An avid mountain biker and wood worker, Kovacs and his family have fostered over 20 dogs through Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. He is the executive director of pre-construction for Skanska USA Building, a commercial general contractor.

When asked why he's running for public office, Kovacs said he wants to draw attention to three main areas: increasing employment opportunities, encouraging smart growth patterns and improving cooperation between cities, the county, state and federal agencies "to help maintain and improve the already excellent quality of life we enjoy here in Cherokee County."

“It will be extremely important to me to be accessible to the citizens in my district, understand their concerns and issues and work diligently to address them," he added. "The main responsibility of my full-time job as a preconstruction director is to understand the needs and desires of my clients, and to provide them with a building that meets those needs and desires while staying within their budget, and my goal as a county commissioner would be the same -- to understand the needs and wants of my constituents, and to deliver those to the best of my ability while working within our county budget."

He and wife, Jennifer, and daughters, Madison and Samantha, have lived in Cherokee County since 2007.
