Lower Birmingham Road Reopens After Single Vehicle Accident
A power pole fell into the street after a driver hit the structure early Saturday morning.

An east Cherokee County thoroughfare is expected to remain close throughout Saturday morning as crews work to remove a power pole that fell into the street following a single-vehicle accident.

Lower Birmingham Road between Roper Road and Bemis Ward Drive is shut down due to the accident involving a vehicle striking a power pole, causing it to fall across the roadway, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office said.
The accident occurred during the predawn hours of Aug. 22.

“Power crews are on the scene now repairing lines and replacing the pole, but Lower Birmingham Road is expected to be closed until around noon,” the agency said.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.
