Jay Baker said. Richard James Sheriff, 61, was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center late Wednesday evening, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said. Sheriff is charged with aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act in the alleged attack on Claudia Santizo, who was his roommate at the time of the incident.
