Man Accused of Taking Cash Register From Store

Canton resident Michael Shane Tanner, 28, has been charged with armed robbery.

A Canton man has been arrested and charged with armed robbery after allegedly taking a cash register from a convenience store.

Detectives with the Canton Police Department have charged Michael Shane Tanner, 29 with armed robbery following an incident that occurred last Friday.

Officers with the agency responded to an armed robbery call around 9:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Marathon convenience at 14 Mill Street. According to Canton police’s press release, the cash register at the business had been stolen.

Canton officers worked together to coordinate calls, gather surveillance video and set up a perimeter for K-9 tracking and patrols to take place in an effort to track down the suspect.

With the help of a K-9 deputy with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, Tanner was discovered in a wooded area near the convenience store. Detectives questioned Tanner about his involvement, and later arrested the man.

Records from the Cherokee County jail show he was booked into the facility late Friday evening and charged with robbery by force or sudden snatching, criminal damage to property in the second degree and probation violation.
