Memorial Day 2017: Events To Commemorate Fallen Veterans
The city of Woodstock will host its annual event on May 29 while the Georgia National Cemetery's commemoration is set for May 27.

CANTON, GA -- If you are looking for ways to show your gratitude to the women and men who've lost their lives while defending our country, then you will have two chances to do so this weekend in Cherokee County.
The Georgia National Cemetery on Saturday, May 27 will host a Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. This year's keynote speaker will be Billy Hasty Jr., the Canton attorney who also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
The main program will be preceded by a Knights of Columbus mass at 7:30 a.m. and a scout graveside flag placement at 9 a.m.

If you plan to attend Saturday's event, organizers ask that you carpool and arrive early due to parking constraints. Folding chairs, blankets and weather-related items -- umbrellas, hats, hand fans, and water -- are recommended items to bring to enjoy the ceremony. The Georgia National Cemetery is located at 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive in Canton.

In Woodstock, the city will host its annual event at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29 at the Park at City Center, which is at 101 Arnold Mill Road. A special performance by the Cobb New Horizons Band will precede the event starting at 9:30 a.m.
You will also be able to visit the Woodstock Memorial, which is made up of 10 tons of polished granite dedicated to veterans who've made the ultimate sacrifice.
Additionally, anyone who knows of a Woodstock veteran who died in combat or from an injury as a result of combat can reach out to the city to have his or her's name added to the memorial.
