In Memory: Jeffrey Shane Helton, 44, Loved The Outdoors

Funeral services for the man who died in a dirt bike accident will take place later this week.

Services for Jeffrey Shane Helton, 44, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 at Sosebee Funeral Home in Canton. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to the funeral hour on Thursday.

Helton was riding his dirt bike Sunday afternoon in an unfinished subdivision off S.R. 20 when he was involved in a fatal accident, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said in a news release.

Helton was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash, Tim Cavender with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services previously told Patch.

“Mr. Helton loved the outdoors,” his obituary states. “He enjoyed camping, fishing, caving and riding dirt bikes and motorcyles.”

According to his obituary, Helton was born in Marietta and worked as a custodian for Aramark.

Helton is survived by wife Tearsa Helton; father, Henry D. (Tammy Phelps) Helton of Ball Ground; children, Jessica Helton and Justin Helton both of Eatonton, Jacob Franklin, Joshua Franklin, Jonathan Franklin, Joseph Helton and Jordan Helton, all of Canton; siblings, Rita Helton (Rick) Beaty of Stevensville, Montana, Dale Helton of Jasper and Sharron Page Helton (Chuck) Campbell of Canton; and grandchildren, Emma Elizabeth, John Weston and Easton Anthony.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
