Missing Elderly Man, 83, Found Near Etowah River

Just hours after his wife reported him missing, an elderly Canton resident was found Tuesday evening about a mile from his home.

Officers with the Canton Police Department located Robert Aust, 83, around 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 near the Etowah River, the agency said in a press release.

Cherokee County dispatchers received a call from Aust’s wife, who told authorities she last saw her husband around 5:30 p.m. at their home, which is located in the 1500 block of Oakdale Road.

Canton police established a command post with the help of the Canton Fire Department, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol. Aust was subsequently located by a search Party.

Canton police spokesperson Pacer Cordry said more information will be given out as it becomes available.
