Mom, Baby Escape House Fire In Ball Ground
The fire damaged the home Friday afternoon on Depot Street.
BALL GROUND, GA — A woman and her baby were able to escape a house fire Friday afternoon without suffering any injuries, Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services said. Firefighters were dispatched around 2:45 p.m. March 23 to the fire in the 100 block of Depot Street in Ball Ground.
Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the back side of the home. The landlord said he believed the house, a one-story wooden structure, was constructed around 1910 (For more news like this, find your local Patch here. The 29-year-old woman living at the home said she heard an explosion and went to the back of the house to investigate. She discovered smoke and flames, so she went back inside, grabbed her seven-month-old daughter and exited the house.

She gave the baby to a neighbor and went back inside the house to retrieve the family dog. The family also includes an adult male and a 16-year-old teenage boy who were not at home when the fire broke out.
According to firefighters on the scene, the back corner of the house suffered significant damage while the remainder of the structure had some smoke and water damage.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the house is under investigation.
