Motorist Dies After Vehicle Hits Tree in Canton
A vehicle was traveling westbound on East Main Street when it veered off the roadway and struck a tree near Breeze Hill Lane.

CANTON, GA -- One person was killed early Friday morning in a single vehicle accident just outside downtown Canton.

Dispatchers received a call of the crash around 4 a.m. April 15 when a vehicle traveling westbound on East Main Street left the roadway and hit a tree just west of Breeze Hill Lane, the Canton Police Department said.
The 2014 Ford pickup was traveling on the road and attempting to negotiate a right-hand curve "at a high rate of speed" when it left the south edge of the road and traveled into the median, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The truck began to rotate clockwise, traveled back onto the roadway and left the northern edge of the street and hit the tree with its left side.
After impact, the driver -- who was not wearing a seatbelt -- was ejected from the vehicle, the agency added.
The accident remains under investigation, and the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.
