Nonprofit Plans To Renovate Bedroom, Bathroom Of Paralyzed Student
Sunshine on a Ranney Day hopes to raise $6,000 for its project to help Knox Elementary School student Monica Lunn.

CANTON, GA -- The prognosis of a Knox Elementary School student paralyzed in a two-vehicle collision is attracting the attention of a Roswell-based nonprofit dedicated to making over rooms for special needs children.
Sunshine on a Ranney Day is organizing a fundraising campaign to renovate the bathroom and bedroom that will help the family of Monica Lunn care for her in a safe and accommodating atmosphere.
The projected cost of the project is $20,000, but the support of sponsors and donors have resulted in organizers needing only $6,000.

"Sunshine has stepped in and will be giving Monica and her family reassurance they will be able to take care of her in an environment that is safe for both Monica and her parents," the organization said. "Monica's parents have given up their bathroom and bedroom, which is on the first floor of the home for their daughter. These two rooms Sunshine will transform -- fit for a princess."
Monica Lunn and her family's lives were forever changed by an accident in late March at a busy intersection near the school.

The vehicle Monica, her sister Melina and their mom were occupying tried to make a left turn from Knox Bridge Highway/S.R. 20 on River Bend Way when it was hit by a Ford pick-up truck, the Georgia State Patrol previously told Patch.
Monica spent the first three weeks in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, which is where the family learned Monica was paralyzed from the neck down and require the use of a respirator to breathe.
Knox Elementary School Principal Tammy Sandell said Monica Lunn is expected to be released late this week from the hospital.
"We cannot wait to have her home and have the family back together," Sandell added.
The school rallied around the family and collected donations for the student. Those funds, along with money raised during an event hosted by Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, was used to purchase a wheelchair accessible van for the family to use.
