Paint the Town Red, White and Blue

Celebrate our nation's independence this weekend in and around Canton.

Where/When: Cannon Park (diagonal to the ); 4 p.m. Monday

Why Go: The festivities start with a real dog parade followed by a real human parade at 6 p.m. Bring your dog in its favorite outfit. There will be prizes for best outfit, funniest outfit, and the dog who looks most like its owner. The event is sponsored by the Canton Main Street Program and . After the parades, head to Riverstone at dusk for music and fireworks sponsored by Canton Tourism.

Where/When: ; Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m

Why Go: Everything at the farm is bursting with American pride, celebrating the spirit of our great nation. There's patriotic pony rides, bluegrass music and hayrides through the All American Wild West Town.

Pricing: $10; Infants admitted free of charge. Last tickets are sold one hour before closing.

Where/When: Corkscrews and Canvas, 185 W. Main St., Canton; 7 p.m. Saturday

Why Go: Paint your own fireworks this Fourth of July weekend and take home your patriotic masterpiece. The instructor will be the guide for the class, so bring friends, snacks and a great can-do attitude for a fun-filled, stress-free evening. Wine, beer, soda and water will be served.

4. JULY FOURTH FREEDOM FEST

Where/When: , Woodstock; Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate our great nation's birthday with a parade down Main Street at 10 a.m. followed by a festival in the park starting at 11 a.m. There's something for everyone including a free concert with the Block Party Band, not to mention a magician, a juggler, kids activities, arts and crafts, great food and more.

Where/When: Cherokee Recreation Center, 8545 Main St., Woodstock; Daily until July 30

Why Go: Show how much you appreciate our troops who are overseas by sending letters, donating items or money. The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency has teamed up with to coordinate donated items and letters. For more information, call Becky Kerstetter, 770-924-7768.
