Police Identify Siblings Killed At Canton Apartment

CANTON, GA -- The Canton Police Department has released the identities of the brother and sister who were both fatally stabbed overnight Friday.

Canton residents Omar Ruiz, 23, and Antonia Ruiz, 27, both died following an attack inside building 3000 at the Laurels at Greenwood Apartments.

Oscar Tierrablanca, a resident of Dallas and the father of Antonia Ruiz's 18-month-old child, was been charged with two counts of malice murder in connection to the case.

Canton police responded to a call of an assault around 1:30 a.m. July 22 at the complex, which is located at 1215 Hickory Flat Highway, east of Interstate 575.

Officers arrived on the scene to find two people "lying in the breezeway of the third floor," Canton police said.

Omar Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene while his sister died after she was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee.

Tierrablanca remains held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting Canton detectives with the case.
