UPDATE: Boy, 12, Found Walking Near Highway
The Cherokee Sheriff's Office said Sam McElroy was found Sunday morning walking near Fincher Road north of Canton.

UPDATE at 8:13 a.m. Feb. 22:
A 12-year-old Cherokee County boy has been found roughly 18 hours after he was last seen.
Sam McElroy was found Sunday morning walking near S.R. 108/Fincher Road a few miles from his home, which is located on Fields McGhee Drive in the Clayton community, said Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.

Baker added Sam, who appeared to have stayed in the woods throughout the night, will be taken to Northside Hospital-Cherokee for evaluation as a precaution.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office are asking the public to help them locate a missing child.
Sam McElroy, 12, was last seen “walking away from his house” on Fields McGhee Drive in the Clayton community around 3 pm. Saturday, said agency spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.
Baker said search and rescue units are on the scene looking for Sam, who is about 4’8”, weighs approximately 80 pounds, wears braces and wears glasses.
Sam was last seen wearing gray sweat pants with a blue stripe, a blue jacket, black tennis shoes and was carrying a green bag.
Anyone who may have seen Sam this afternoon or has any information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
