Police Release Sketches Of Deadly Home Invasion Suspects

The body of Herbert Perkinson, 49, was found dumped on I-75 in Cherokee County in January 2016.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released sketches of the two men they believe were involved in the January 2016 murder of a Bartow County man whose body was found dumped along Interstate 75 near the Cobb-Cherokee County border.

The agency is asking the public to help identify these two men possibly responsible for the home invasion and shooting death of Herbert Perkinson, 49, of Emerson, in January 2016.

Perkinson's body was found dumped along I-75 around 5:49 a.m. Jan. 17, 2016, on southbound side of the interstate north of the Cobb-Cherokee line. Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office found the male, later identified as Perkinson, "lying on the inside warning lane of the interstate with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso," the agency previously told Patch.

Investigators were able to determine that Perkinson was the victim of a home invasion in Emerson. The GBI was called in by Emerson police to help with its investigation into the incident reported in the 100 block of 11th street.

Perkinson was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he died from his injuries. Along with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Emerson police continue to investigate the case.

GBI spokesperson Bahan Rich said agents continue to follow up on leads in the case, which officials believe could have stemmed from a possible robbery, "though we know of nothing taken from our victim."

Emerson police previously said on its Facebook page that it appeared the incident was isolated.

"It is apparent that the victim knew his assailants and was targeted by them due to a disagreement," former Police Chief Stan Bradley said.
