A police detective testified Thursday that Smith told investigators that she had seen God and believed that God had told her to kill her step-cousin, WSB-TV reports. Smith allegedly tried stabbing herself after stabbing Hebert.
Smith testified that she ran to a neighbor’s house immediately following the incident and said Hebert allegedly made her smoke something that caused the stabbing, according to WSB-TV.
Police said they found no traces of drugs inside the home.
The investigation started when Cobb police responded to a person stabbed call around 8:49 a.m. Nov. 14 at a home in the 3100 block of Blowing Wind Court in unincorporated Acworth.
When officers arrived to the home, they found the body of a woman lying in the yard of the residence, Cobb police said.
Police say the victim, subsequently identified as Hebert, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the incident.
Smith, who was also located near the scene, was detained for questioning. She was subsequently transported to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center where she’s being held without bond.
