Canton Police Seeking Publix Burglary Suspect: Do You Know Him?

Police say he and a partner got into the pharmacy by entering a vacant suite next door and breaking through the Publix wall.

CANTON, GA — Canton Police Detectives have issued an arrest warrant for a man they believe was involved in the Publix burglary, which happened Jan. 23 at the location off Prominence Point Parkway, according to police.

Marquis Gay, 34, of Atlanta, pictured above, is one of two suspects in the burglary. "Detectives collected numerous pieces of physical evidence, store video and witness statements, which were vital to identifying" Gay, police said.

Patrol officers were dispatched around 5 a.m. Jan. 23 to the store, and arrived on the scene where they met with a store employee who "immediately noticed a male standing in the pharmacy department" when he arrived early for work, the agency said.

From the evidence, the department said it appears the suspects discovered a back door to a vacant suite next to the grocery store. The pair entered the vacant storefront and "were able to knock a hole in the wall that allowed them to gain entry into the store."

Police said the burglars were able to disable the alarm system in the store.

A similar incident of a suspect cutting through an adjacent wall to access a pharmacy was reported in May 2017 at PharMoore Pharmacy at 3422 Sixes Road in unincorporated Canton. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office previously told Patch that detectives believe the suspect entered the store on May 22 by breaking the lock on the Farmers Insurance office next door.

Canton police are asking that anybody with information on Gay or his location call 911 or call the PD at 770-720-4883.
