Police: No Sign Of Plane Crash Near Canton (UPDATE)

A search conducted by the Georgia State Patrol Air Unit yielded no signs of a crash.

After a search of the area, a report of a possible plane crash northeast of the Great Sky subdivision has turned out to be a false alarm.

“After a thorough search by the Georgia State Patrol Air Unit, no indication was found that a plane had gone down northeast of Canton where smoke had been reported,” the Canton Police Department said on its Facebook page. “No planes have been reported missing in the area and the search has concluded.”

A resident initially called 911 and reported smoke coming from a wooded area several miles where a low-flying aircraft had been spotted late Thursday morning.

“We appreciate the quick response and assistance from of the Georgia State Patrol Air Unit, Canton Fire Department and the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office,” the agency added.
