CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Cherokee Recreation and Parks is set to host a virtual design workshop and an outdoor informational workshop for the Northeast Cherokee Parks Master Plans Project.

Earlier this year, the Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with TSW to create a master plan, which will include three different parcels in the northeast area of Cherokee County. The sites include a 102-acre parcel in Free Home for the future E.W. and Edith Cochran Park, a 538-acre parcel on Yellow Creek Road along the Etowah River and the recently named Long Swamp Creek Recreation Area, a 23- acre parcel on Ball Ground Road at the union of Long Swamp Creek and the Etowah River.

A virtual design workshop will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10 in a virtual platform. The meeting will include a brief summary about project site conditions and conceptual drafts for each site. A recording of the workshop will be posted on the project website within 24 hours of the meeting. Those interested in participating will need to register ahead of time on the project website.

Interested parties will also have the opportunity to attend an outdoor informational workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Cherokee Veterans Parks located at 7345 Cumming Highway in Canton, to learn about the proposed parks amenities and provide input.

“I want to thank those who have already participated in the online surveys and provided input,” said Cherokee Recreation and Parks Director Jay Worley. “For those who have not yet participated, we hope to see you at the outdoor workshop at Veterans Park or online for the virtual design workshop.”

A second round of online surveys and interactive maps will open on Nov. 10.

As the master planning concludes, TSW will provide the county a plan document that will include conceptual design considerations, costs analysis, research summaries and public input results.
