Purses Stolen From Vehicles During Entering Auto Spree

Six entering auto cases were reported in Towne Lake while another took place in unincorporated Canton.

CANTON, GA --  The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is investigating multiple reports of entering autos, most of which occurred in the Towne Lake community.

On Friday, June 10, deputies responded to three locations where six vehicles had their windows shattered and purses were removed from inside those cars.

Four of the thefts occurred at Hobgood Park, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesperson with the agency. Another was reported at the Arbor View subdivision pool and the remaining case took place at the Eagle Watch Golf Club.

On Sunday, deputies were dispatched to Callahan Golf Links in unincorporated Canton where one car also had a window shattered and purse stolen from that vehicle.

A witness at Hobgood Park reported he saw a "black male with short hair driving a dark colored sedan looking into vehicle windows at the park," the agency said.

Detectives believe the suspects are targeting cars with purses in plain view, with the intent of obtaining credit cards and checks. For example, in one case, an Apple iPad lying next to a purse in a vehicle was left behind, as the suspect chose to take the bag instead, the sheriff's office said.

"We would like to take this opportunity to remind citizens to remove purses and other valuables from their parked vehicles when possible," Baker said. "If that is not possible placing these items in the trunk is the second best option. If your vehicle doesn’t have a trunk, please take steps to conceal your valuables."
