Qualifying in Canton Underway

Interested persons will have until Friday afternoon to become a candidate for the three city council seats up for grabs in November

Officials with the city have set Monday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Aug. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as the qualifying dates for this year’s municipal elections. Interested candidates must be at least 21 years of age, must be a resident of the City of Canton for one year preceding the date of election, and a qualified voter of the City of Canton.

Candidates must also have resided in the ward they wish to represent for at least six months prior to the election and must remain in their ward for the duration of their term

The qualifying fee is $63 to run for a council seat.

Residents will head to the polls on Nov. 5 to either replace or reinstate council members Bob Rush, Bill Bryan, and John Beresford.
