Reinhardt To Celebrate The Talent of Students at Convocation
The 7th Annual Robert L. Driscoll Convocation of Artists & Scholars will take place the week of April 6.

Reinhardt’s best student minds and talent will convene the week of April 6 for the University’s 7th Annual Robert L. Driscoll Convocation of Artists & Scholars.
The week will boast music recitals, creative writing readings, a student research conference, portfolio presentations, student art and science exhibits and a theatre performance. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this unique scholarly event.
“The purpose of the COAS is to show off the best work of our best students,” said Dr. Wayne Glowka, dean of arts and humanities. “The experience affirms for them their sense of accomplishment and pride in a job well done.

Students will perform music, read from their creative writing, compete in a speech contest, exhibit art and talk about their research, internships, and international experiences, Glowka added.
The Convocation begins on Monday, April 6 at 2 p.m. as Dr. J. Thomas Isherwood, president, formally opens the week’s events in the Falany Performing Arts Center, choir room 116.

Following the opening ceremony, a select group of student musicians will perform a short recital for guests until 3 p.m. Events for the rest of the week will be the Bannister Glasshouse of the Hasty Student Life Center — starting off with an exhibit of student art and a presentation of student-produced videos that will be on display until Tuesday, April 7. Internship presentations will follow from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and will feature the experiences of current students and alumni who completed internships.
During a Research Conference and Speech Presentations from 8:30 a.m. noon Tuesday, April 7, a select group of students will present their best academic research papers and speeches.
From 9:30 a.m. to noon, chosen education and sport studies majors will show off their outstanding portfolios, which include select work and projects created in their courses at Reinhardt. Those members of any Reinhardt-affiliated honor society will be honored in a reception scheduled for noon.
From 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., students in the science and mathematics disciplines will be on hand to present and discuss their research projects. To conclude Tuesday’s events, student, faculty and guest writers will take the mic from 9-10:30 p.m. to present their best creative writing work.
On Wednesday, April 8, those at Reinhardt will get to experience what the world has to offer, without leaving campus. Students will share from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. lessons learned and experiences had while studying abroad. An International Culture Festival will unite all members of the Reinhardt community to share about their native countries. The festival is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.and will feature music, dance, food and informational booths.
On Friday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m., the Reinhardt University Theatre Program will have its opening night performance of Into the Woods, a Stephen Sondheim production, at the Falany Performing Arts Center. The performances will continue into the weekend on Saturday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 12.

“An important part of the liberal arts experience is gaining confidence in one’s abilities as a scholar or artist,” Glowka said. “Many universities have research conferences, but our convocation is unique in the breadth and diversity of its presentations. We are showing off how we educate the ‘whole’ student.”
