Major Perkins will also supervise the Emergency Management and the Training Division functions of the agency.

“This restructuring is based on current needs and trends through the country,” Garrison said. “Currently 95 percent of the efforts of our emergency management function are dedicated toward storms and natural disasters. It is critical that we address the potential impact of an act of domestic terrorism in our county or region. It will be Major Perkins assignment to develop both law enforcement and civilian responses to this type of event.“

The change comes on the heels of the agency as well as local police departments hosting a series of C.R.A.S.E., or Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events, seminars, which were well attended by local residents.
