Rotary Club Of Canton Celebrates Veterans

The Rotary Club learned about the American Legion's Cherokee County Homeless Veterans program, which supports local men and women.

CANTON, GA — The Rotary Club of Canton this week celebrated Veterans Day with a program focused on how to help those who served our country and now are in great need.

Michael Satterly, deputy director of the American Legion’s Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program, spoke to the club about the plight of the veterans it serves and efforts underway to assist them in their recovery.

The nonprofit organization raises funds through activities including an annual golf tournament, supports homeless veterans with various forms of assistance, and plans to construct a homeless veterans shelter in the county.

Anyone interested in joining the Rotary Club is welcome to attend a weekly lunch meeting at noon on Tuesdays at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center (1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton 30114). Upcoming programs include:

The club will not meet Dec. 24 or 30.

The club will bring back its popular community prayer breakfast event at 7 a.m. on Nov. 19 at the conference center, with guest speaker Dr. Dwight “Ike” Reighard, President and CEO of MUST Ministries and senior pastor of Piedmont Church.

The club is seeking business and community sponsors for the event, with giving levels ranging from $250 to $2,500 with numerous associated benefits; individual tickets also are for sale for $25 each (with a discounted rate of $20 per ticket for clergy).
