School District Enrollment Inches Closer To 41,000

Enrollment in Cherokee County schools has increased steadily during the first five days of the 2015-16 school year.

The Cherokee County School District is rounding out the first week of the 2015-16 school year with more students.

Friday’s enrollment reached 40,939 students, an increase of 798 students since the first day of school, the system said on Friday.

Friday’s total also is an increase of 730 students from last school year’s Day 5 enrollment.

The breakdown of the first week of classes include:

  • Monday, Aug. 3 (first day of school): 40,141, up by 681 from the previous year’s first day
  • Tuesday, Aug. 4: 40,663, up by 736 from last year’s second day
  • Wednesday, Aug. 5: 40,808, up by 727 from last year’s third day
  • Thursday, Aug. 6: 40,900, up by 725 from last year’s fourth day

Overall, the district is expecting an additional 1,156 students this year for a projected 20-day enrollment of 41,673.
