Seminar Will Help Senior Citizens Prevent Identity Theft

The Cherokee Triad - SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) Council will host a seminar next month on the topic of identity theft.

The seminar, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 1 p.m. March 5 at the William G. Long Senior Center at 223 Arnold Mill Road in Woodstock.

Identity theft is a serious crime and occurs when your personal information is stolen and used without your knowledge to commit fraud or other crimes. Identity theft can cost you time and money, can destroy your credit and ruin your good name, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

The Cherokee Triad and S.A.L.T. council was implemented in July 2006 by the Canton Police Department to represent all communities in the county.

The council and organization is a partnership with Canton police, Cherokee Sheriff’s Department, Woodstock Police Department, Holly Springs Police Department and other organizations tasked with identifying and developing programs to address the needs and concerns of seniors in the community.
