The data reviewed by U.S. News and World Report was based upon the 2012-13 school year and included student math and reading results from each state’s high school proficiency tests.
It also reviewed the academic performance of disadvantaged students — black, Hispanic and low-income — and the percentage of students who took rigorous courses, such as Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes.
Cherokee County has had as many as four of its six high schools on the list in past years, and Sequoyah had made the list each of the last four years.
This is River Ridge High School’s first appearance on the list. As a new school with its first graduating class in 2013, River Ridge has just recently become eligible for such data-based rankings.
All six district high schools were named on the Washington Post’s Most Challenging High Schools list last month.
