Spirit of '45 Observation Set For Sunday in Canton
The event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II will take place at 11 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Georgia National Cemetery.

Residents are invited to attend a Spirit of ‘45 observance to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The simple ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16 at the main flag pole across from the ceremonial area at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
Opening remarks will be given by Patty Decker of Woodstock Funeral Home, which is sponsoring a live wreath and bugler for the occasion. Governor Nathan Deal’s proclamation will be presented by Loriann White, Regent, Hightower Trail Chapter, DAR.

Following the benediction, given by chaplain Kipling L. McVay, “Taps“ will be played. For more information, contact Marge Helgerson, director of the Georgia National Cemetery, at 770-479-9300.
