Suspect Charged With Home Invasion, Assault

The Cherokee County homeowner exchanged gunfire with the suspects during the April 4 incident.

CANTON, GA -- A Ball Ground man has been arrested and charged in connection to last week's home invasion that resulted in an exchange of gunfire during the wee hours of the morning in Cherokee County.

Justin Pruitt, 29, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of home invasion and probation violation, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff's office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said Pruitt was arrested around 3 a.m. Monday, April 10 at Econo Lodge on Keith Drive in Canton.

Deputies with the agency were dispatched just before daybreak Tuesday, April 4 to a report of an armed robbery at a home along Old Mill Road, which is located off S.R. 20/Cumming Highway in the Lathemtown community.

The victim told police that two mask-wearing subjects entered his home and "after a brief altercation and at least one shot fired by the suspects, the suspects fled the home," the sheriff's office said.

The homeowner returned fire, and it doesn't appear the suspects were injured. No one inside the home was injured, the sheriff's office added.

Baker said the other suspect remains at large, and the agency is following up on leads to track that person down.
