'Threatening' Graffiti Found at Cherokee High School

The Cherokee County School District notes the message did not reference a shooting or anything specific.

CANTON, GA -- The Cherokee County School District's Police Department is investigating graffiti of a "threatening nature" found Thursday at Cherokee High School.

The principal of the school emailed parents, informing them of the discovery as a precaution, said district spokesperson Barbara Jacoby.

Jacoby noted the message, which did not reference a shooting or anything in particular, read 'Things will never be the same" and referenced Friday's date, which is Jan. 13.

The graffiti of a "threatening nature" was written on the wall of the a restroom, said Principal Todd Miller. Following the discovery, the district's school police was notified and administrators implemented standard safety measures.

"As always, it is not only the school district’s practice to take all available measures and precautions necessary to ensure student safety, but also to keep our parents, students and staff informed," Miller's email states. "We want to thank our parents, students and community for their support in working together to ensure a safe school environment."

Miller also pointed out that any student who violates district policy will have to face the consequences outlined in the school's Parent/Student Handbook.
