Tractor Trailer Overturns, Spills Trash On East Cherokee Drive

BALL GROUND, GA -- A garbage truck spilled its load early Saturday morning along a major thoroughfare in Cherokee County.

Crews with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Ball Ground Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call around 8:30 a.m. April 2 of a tractor trailer carrying garbage that had overturned on East Cherokee Drive near the Etowah River bridge.
The driver, who was not seriously injured, was able to get out of the vehicle and evaluated at the scene, Cherokee County fire said in its press release.

Firefighters assisted Town and Country wrecker service with removing the garbage, containing a hydraulic fluid leak and getting the truck back on its wheels.
The agency stated some garbage remained on the side of East Cherokee Drive until Monday when the landfill re-opened and crews were able to resume cleanup.
The driver of the truck was an employee of the Graham County, North Carolina’s Sanitation Department. The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
