Traffic Alert: S.R. 372 To Close For Movie Filming

A segment of Highway 372 in Cherokee County will close next week to accommodate the production of a new movie starring Tom Cruise.

S.R. 372 between S.R. 5 Business/Canton Highway and Civic Drive in Ball Ground will be closed to through traffic from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 to Friday, June 5, the Georgia DOT’s Northwest Office said on its Facebook page.

The road closure was requested by the city of Ball Ground so crews can begin filming Mena. Cruise will play the role of Barry Seal, a TWA pilot turned drug smuggler for the Medellin cartel.

Seal was later recruited to provide intelligence for the DEA and CIA, and was later killed in 1986, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Through traffic will also be detoured off the portion of Canton Highway between Commerce Lane and Mineral Springs Road daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. between May 20 to June 4.

The Ball Ground Police Department and Cherokee Sheriff’s Office will help guide traffic and signs are being placed along the detours routes to help motorists navigate around the closed portions of the roads, GDOT said.

There will be an emergency lane will be open to emergency vehicles.
