Volunteers Donate $110,000 To Cherokee County Fire

The contribution made by the Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department will be used to help purchase a fire engine for Station 23.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services on Tuesday received a sizable donation from one of its volunteer counterparts.

The Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department donated $110,000 during a ceremony held at Fire Station No. 23 on Vaughn Road. The funds will be used to help purchase a new fire engine that will be housed at Station 23.

Larry Berry, Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department chief, said the money came from donations made by residents in the community.

“The Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department has been an important part of our county for 40 years now,” Cherokee County Fire Chief Tim Prather said. “Still, to this day, they are committed to helping their community by providing quality fire service protection.”

Cherokee County Commissioner and former Fire Chief Raymond Gunnin accepted the check along with several of the fire chiefs of Cherokee County and firefighters from Station 23.
