Warming Shelter Opens In Canton

ForCanton's shelter opens when temperatures drop below 32 degrees.

CANTON, GA -- For the first time in several months, the ForCanton Warming Shelter will open to anyone who needs a place to dodge the dangerously cold temperatures.

The shelter at 271 Marietta Road in Canton is slated to open 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10, the organization said on its Facebook page.

"If you know anyone who needs a warm, safe place to stay for the night, the doors will be open," the organization added.

The ForCanton shelter opens when temperatures drop below 32 degrees.

With this in mind, those behind the shelter's operations said they are in "desperate need" of tents and sleeping bags for less fortunate residents. Anyone who wants to perform this act of kindness can drop off those items at the shelter between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. everyday this week.

According to the National Weather Service, the low for Thursday is expected to dip to 24 degrees, with partly cloudy skies.

The forecast for Friday and Saturday call for sunny skies during the day and clear conditions at night, with highs in the upper 30's to low 40's and lows in the 20's.
