Woman, 84, Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash

Two people were injured in an accident Tuesday afternoon in Hickory Flat.

Crews with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the accident shortly after 1 p.m. Oct. 13 along Sugar Pike Road between Lower Birmingham and Batesville roads in unincorporated Canton.

Initial reports indicate a black Chevrolet Impala and a silver Mazda were involved in the crash, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson Tim Cavender said in a press release.

The 84-year-old female driver of the Chevrolet was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. Lt. Scott Gwinn with the agency said the woman complained of hip pain and was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee for treatment.

The driver of the Mazda, a 19-year-old motorist, did not suffer any injuries and was evaluated at the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, Cavender said.
