World War I Exhibit Opens at Cherokee County History Museum
Doughboys and the Home Front: The Great War in Cherokee County opened Jan. 11 and will remain on display through April.
CANTON, GA -- Another temporary exhibit has opened at the Cherokee County History Museum.
The latest exhibit, Doughboys and the Home Front: The Great War in Cherokee County, marks the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.
It specifically focuses on the United States’ entry into the war and Cherokee County’s contribution to the battles.

The exhibit features numerous artifacts, including a World War I era pistol carried by Oscar Bishop as well original military records and personal letters.
The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is located in Suite 140 of the historic marble courthouse at 100 North Street in downtown Canton and will be open through April.

Museum operating hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
As part of the anniversary, the Cherokee County Historical Society will also offer a history program on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Rock Barn.
Ken Myers will discuss the life of an everyday soldier and have several World War I uniforms and other items on display. The display opens at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. The Rock Barn is located at 658 Marietta Highway in Canton.
