Accused Gunman Shot Uncle, Killed His Neighbor: Police

A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family of Paul David Archer, the Cartersville man killed in the May 17 shooting.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A few more details have been released in the May 17 double shooting that killed one man and injured another resident. The man who died at the scene of the shooting has been identified as Paul David Archer, 57, of Cartersville, Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton said.

Bartow County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan Rogers also told Patch that Archer was the neighbor of the other man who was injured during the shooting. Archer was visiting that resident, whose name has not been released at this time, when the shooting was reported.

In another twist, Rogers said the man charged in connection to the crime, 27-year-old Justin Lee Wade, is the nephew of the man who survived the gunshot wound. Wade, of Rome, was booked into the Bartow County Jail on Friday, May 18 on one count each of murder and aggravated assault with a gun, those jail records show.

The May 17 shooting was reported at a residence on Franklin Drive, which is located off Cassville Road north of West Iron Belt Road in Cartersville. Sheriff's deputies and EMS personnel arrived to find Archer dead outside the home. The other male shooting victim fled the scene, but was found a short time later. He was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Wade, who fled the scene after the shooting, was arrested by sheriff's office detectives hours after the shooting in Floyd County. Jail records show he remains held without bond. No details about the motive of the shooting have been released and the investigation remains active.

A GoFundMe page has been created by Joann Moore to help Archer's family pay for funeral expenses. The campaign is hoping to raise $10,000 for the victim's family.

"I ask that we come together in honor of his loving memory to help us cope with this huge loss," Moore said. "We should not have to worry about the economic burden at such difficult time. I hope we can all pitch in; remember, no amount is too little. David, you will forever be in our hearts. You clearly left many of us with loving memories that we will forever cherish."
